Will it fit?

Back in November I bought a tub that is 4 hours away. The question is: Will the tub fit in the back of my pick-up, or should I borrow my buddy's landscape trailer and put it on that? I have a '01 Chevy 2500HD 8' bed with toolbox and System One racks. I thought I saw a thread with a pic of a guy moving a tub in a truck, but couldn't find it. What do you guys think?

    Thanks,

I moved my brand new 4wd hardware tub in the back of an '89 ford ranger on its side. If your moving a used tub, you can probably do it that way as well, but I'd take wood for bracing the interior of the tub and the sides.

An early tub fits perfectly in the back of my '94 Chevy so it should fit in yours. Put it in rear first and the wheel wells sit right down over the wheel humps in the bed of the truck effectively locking it into place. I ran a ratchet strap from bed rail to bed rail over the top to keep it from bouncing but even that was unnecessary, it never moved.:v6:

1 Question to Rocky: How far back did it come. I hate to have to remove the toolbox to get it to fit. It was a pain mounting it on the rails with the racks.

Jeff: Cool pic. We moved a lot of M151's in 5 tons and on trailers. Never saw one in the back of a 5 ton with the canvas still on though.:):flag:

Thanks to all that replied. I'll spend a little more time with the tape measure today. It's tough trying to figure it when the tub is sitting on the frame.

A toolbox could be a problem. I have a shortbed and there was less than 2 feet widths between the rear of the tub and the cab IIRC. If you have a longbed there's a chance but I doubt it. You should be able to measure from the rear bottom most edge of the wheelwell on the tub to it's rear and compare to from the front edge of the wheel hump to the toolbox. If you can just get it a little over the hump and tie it down good it should ride OK IMO.:v6:

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

Take a couple of 4x4's, set them on top of the bedrails then set the tub on top of the 4x4's. Then strap everything down tight.

I have a dodge 2500 with an 8' bed and put a +76 cj5 in the back. Tight fit, back in first so the wheelwells of the bed set in the wheelwells of the jeep and the front of the tub set on the tailgate. Fit fine but it was tight. But next time, I'd use the 4x4's to make it eaiser....maybe.

If you have a trailer that you can use I would go that rout. easy on easy off.

I have moved a CJ5 tub across town by padding the bed rails and setting the tub crossways on top of the rails. I cinched it down good with tie-down straps and it stayed in place. I would move another one the same way in a minute. (if the wife would let me buy another one. which she won't) :(
