Has anyone seen this kit on e-bay? Is it new ?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=300191294283&rd=1

It says that there is no need to grind the axle housing.

I don't think I would pay that much but I would consider buying a parts list and thier custom caliper mounting brackets.

If anyone knows anything about this company or another company out there making custom brackets that require no grinding on the housing I would like to here from them.

    Thanks,
    Ken

    Just my .02 cents

I buy on ebay, and many thing's there are not what they seem.
    Duh. I guess, but anyway.

If you cant call and talk too them about thier claims like the grinding for example I would
very careful about just buying it.

Best price seems to almost always = low quality product.

I buy jeep stuff on ebay only when its a established store that just hapens to use ebay as a convient way to sell stuff in addition to thier store.

    IMHO..

I think the custom caliper mount is whats keeping you from grinding the knuckle. Never seen these used but hey who knows, it might be possible.

The feedback looks good. I would see if a member here in CT would look into the buisness to check them out. Also to let them know they could sell the parts list with the custom bracket and it would open up the market for them.

FWIW - I have purchased 11" kits for about that same price. To me (at the time) it was cheaper for my time to just buy the kit vs piece one together.

I did this conversion using junk yard and some new parts. Looks like a decent kit but I agree with what othershave said here, check it out 1st. There are some other things that need to be done when doing the conversion. The write up in the Tech section is a great tool. You will need to machine the hubs flat and may need to use thicker bearings/seals. Also be careful when routing the brake lines....trust me on this one!

Wowsers. You could piece that kit together for a lot less at your local NAPA and junkyard.

Yes you could, but thats the beauty of the kit...you dont have to spend any time scratching your head crawling around in a junkyard or buying/returning parts to the FLAPS just my $.02

I just got a complete kit for my Ford truck for $280, but $400 - $500 is the norm for most coversion kits, Almost all use GM calipers

You could get the parts list free (oldjeep.com) thanks to Chuck, and buy everything you need online for about half the price. Not trying to argue because I agree with your opinion about paying to save time, though I think that kit is just a little too 'spensive for what you get IMO.

I guess I'm biased because I enjoy walking through junkyards and trying to find ways to save a buck too... though it doesn't always work out that way once time is considered.

    Short answer, no.

The stock rims will not clear a GM disc conversion, but you don't have to machine all hubs. The replacement hubs I bought from KRAGE (Omix-Ada) were machined flat from the factory.

IMHO, do the kit yourself and save ~160 bux. If you want stock-looking rims, go either the Stockton or OEM late CJ route. Grinding the knuckles is neither hard nor challenging, and machining the hubs can be done by any shop with a lathe in about 15 mintes for LOTS less than new hubs. Teh most expensive part of the whole conversion is the GM backing plates, and if you shop around you can get the for a reasonable price. YMMV. ;)

The eBay kit might work just fine, but I'd want to know what parts they used so you can get replacements locally. If they're custom or exotic parts then maintenance might become both expensive and a pain in the a$$.

Thanks for everyones input. I did get a return e-mail from the manufacturer and they said they do not sell the caliper brackets and or parts list seperatly. The brackets were my main attraction to this kit due to the fact that no grinding is required. Anyway's if anyone finds caliper brackets (that do not require grinding to the axle housing) sold seperatly I would like to here from them.

    As always thanks !

Grinding the knuckles is really no big deal. In fact I'd be very surprised that the kit you were looking at truly didn't require any grinding for clearance. You can get an angle grinder at Harbor Freight for $20.

I agree with Posi. I fab mounted the bracket and ground just enough for the calipers to clear. Not really hard, mark it well and take your time. I used bone yard donor caliper brackets and calipers for around $90 off a 82 Chevy Blazer 4x4. I think I am into the whole thing for around $250 - $300.

Where does everyone find the caliper brackets? I have yet too find any either at a local junk yard or an OEM supplier, GM no longer makes or sells them.

The write up in the tech library says 71-78 Chevy 4x4 w/Dana 44. I found mine on a 1982 Blazer 4x4 with Dana 44.

After '78 or so the calipers have metric inlet ports, but that's no big deal. Pretty much any six-bolt front caliper mount should fit, and you buy rebuilt calipers for whatever application the mounts came off of.

Thanks for joining in. One of the moderators will be able to let you know if you are off base. I think the major questions are the grinding of the knuckles and the availability of replacement parts. Are the pads, calipers, hardware, etc easily obtainabe aftermarket or are they special parts avilable only from you.
