I know this is a stupid question, but is there a trick to getting the stop light switch off of the master cylinder? I've tried and tried and I can't get the dang thing to budge  It's a tight space and with the exhaust and break lines in the way I don't have much room. It's just really annoying and frustrating me to no end. It seems like a simple task and I can't do it...

..I'm mostly just venting my frustrations in this thread.

Mine was super easy...Course I was replacing my master anyway, my body was off, and so was my exhaust :D
It's a 3/4" wrench, disconnect the breaklines and maybe try to bend them out of the way?

special vehicles require special tools for specially hard to get places. You may have to modify a tool to get. I have several TuxIV ONLY wrenches.

Just thought of something...does the switch screw directly into the mater cylinder or does it screw into something else that screws into the master cylinder? The reason I ask...My old switch looks like it screws into a nut, which is attached to something that screws into the master cylinder. The nut is 3/4". I can get that nut to turn and unscrew that, but I though it was supposed to remain there because the new switch doesn't have this nut on it. I though the new switch is supposed to screw into the nut, which then screws into the MC. If I remove the nut, the whole switch will come with it. I started to do that, but break fluid started to leak out. Thats what made me thing the switch was supposed to be removed from the nut.

I know, this doesn't make any sense, but I don't know how else to explain it. :?:?

Mine just turned right out, if you have to, take that nut out with it and take all that apart on the bench.

Mine didn't have the nut you speak about though. Either way a little bit of brake fluid will leak out, mine did anyway.

3/4" six-point deep socket with extensions and u-joints? Maybe take all the floor pans off to reach it?

To my utter amazement it came right off.

It screws through your banjo split manifold, and then into the master IIRC.
6 point may work, but mine did slip off, I had to use an open box wrench. It was in there tight...! Dad had to break it. Course by then I had worked on it so much he just unscrewed it effortlessly ;)

Okay. I got it off last evening. I ended up removing the "banjo split manifold" (thats what sammy is calling it anyways), which screwed into the MC and the switch was screwed into it. Once I got it out, I was able to get a pair of vice grips on the old switch and a wrench on the banjo split manifold and turn them both - with a lot of effort. For some reason, that switch was really in there. None the less, the new switch is in. I tested it using a test light and it seems to work when I press the break pedal, so I guess I'm good to go. Now I just have to wire up the break lights and I'm all good.
