    Hi folks.

How difficult is it to rebuild a carb on a 134 4 cyl? Everything's stock.

Runs ok once she's warmed up, but until then, she bogs down. I was thinking she might need a carb kit. Any suggestions or hints on a rebuild?

    Please advise.

The YF can be finicky, lots of folks rebuild one and decide that they can't rebuild carburetors when it doesn't work.

Usually it's more likely that the carburetor is worn out so much it's not rebuildable.

If you chose to rebuild it I'd suggest a carburetor kit from The Carburetor Shop, others have said there are kits for the YF available elsewhere but I can't recall. The issue is the YF was used on so many different applications that there are many different versions. The kit from your FLAPs likely will not have the correct parts.

Also, look through this talk I gave a few years ago:

And be sure to search the forum, we have lots of information about this topic here from the past.

What kind of weather temps. are you dealing with? Does it start easily or hard? Does it hesitate when warmed up or is acceleration smooth?

Temps are in the 30s, not that cold really.

It starts easily, but even when it's warm it hesitates sometimes. Not a big problem but an annoying one.

Any advice? I hate to tear into the carb if that's not the problem. I've rebuilt a rochester before, as well as small engine and outboard carbs so I'm familiar with the job, I've just heard the carter yf is diificult.

I'd be tempted to just pull the top off and blow air thru the ports and float bowl; clean it all out on the Jeep; reinstall the top and try again; also checking the accel pump to make sure it's working properly, a nice stream of fuel should be emitted all thru the stroke.
    just my opinion.

Just throwing things out there before you start on the carb, Is there a thermostat in the engine and do you know what temperature it is? The the sluggish performance could be from an intake manifold that is just to cold to vaporize fuel properly....Just a possibility worth eliminating.
I have had good luck rebuilding and custom tuning these, sometimes you have to shim some slack out of the throttle shaft.
In the desert or other warm climates you can get away with running a 160 degree t-stat in the summer but in the winter or in colder climates they will stumble unless you run at least a 180 in my experience.
