I have found a '72 commando for sale and it is supposed to have a 360/727/D300 in it. The seller says the tranny stopped pulling and he thinks that it is just the pump that has gave up the ghost. My question is: what would be involved in swapping the 727/D300 combo for a TH400/BW1339 combo that came from behind an AMC 360. I know the output of the tcase would go from centered to offset but that is all I can think of on my own. I already have these units to swap in, but it could be easier to install a pump in the 727??? I don't really care for autos, I really prefer manuals, but I like the old commandos and it seems like a good price. Thanks for any help, Chris.

the condition of the units that you want to swap in may have a say in this...the QT being high maintenance and all, is the diff unit okay, or has an aftermarket kit been installed in it ?
    T400 rebuilt ?
the QT is chain drive; the D300 is gear driven. strength an issue for you ?
the outputs of the D300 are stronger than the Qtrac
to me it would make sense to repair what you have now, either by you or a tranny shop.
just sounds easier than doing the swap in my opinion.

Sounds like a smart idea. I have thought about just fixing what is broken. Just wanted to know what all was involved since I had it on hand. Thanks for the input.
