F-134 valve ajustment easy or hard?

    I need to ajust the valves on my 53 CJ3B and was wondering if its a job that can be done , never having done it before I have the manual but have'nt seen it done before. What Im asking is how many of you guys have done this before and were you sucsesssful?

    very doable
    first time will be the hardest
    do the intakes first-easier to do to see where the feeler gauge goes and how it will feel when you can't see the exhausts

    Its not that bad of a job, Once you get the hang of rotating the engine to stay on the low side of the cam its a piece of cake, Takes longer to get the covers off than it does to adjust the valves. I manage to do my exhaust valves by letting the side cover rest on the oil pump. Once you do this a time or two you will be surprised at how fast it can be done. Have extra gaskets on hand before you tear into it just in case you find the old ones have got hard or they stick and come off in pieces.

    For years I have used old-fashioned Permatex #2 to glue a new gasket onto the cover, and then put a thin coat of grease on the other side of the gasket. This way the gasket always comes off with the cover, and it won' stick to the block. I learned this from an old guy at the drag strip when he saw me replacing the gaskets on my BB Chevy almost every week wheneve I set the valves..

    18 thou on the intake
    16 on the exhaust
