I just bought a oil pump rebuild kit for my 225 V6. There is a couple of choices on the spring I could use that will take the pressure all the way up to 60 lbs. What is the proper pressure for a stock engine.

Is that 60 lbs at idle, or at a certain RPM? If it's idle pressure, than that is way overkill IMHO as most engines are lucky to produce 60 psi at high RPMs. 10 lbs oil pressure per 1000 engine RPMs is a good guideline to follow.

BTW- unless you are going with an all-out race or special application, it's probably best to stick with a stock oil pump. Sparky and I think others also have had issues with the increased power needed to drive a hi-po oil pump; it can be very hard on the bronze drive gears!

with my hi-vol pump, I have 20 psi at idle with the 50 pound spring

5000 miles and no gear issues so far ad my distributor no longer advances itself (wouldn't stay tight)
