What's this random bracket?

Hopefully you guys can help me out once again. I swear, the more I take off this Jeep, the more odd stuff I find. So I have this bracket inside the frame rail on the driver's side behind the midsection and in front of the axle. It's welded on, and not riveted, so I'm guessing it isn't factory, but I don't know. Also, the crossmember in the second picture: should I keep it or lose it? Not sure I like it there and I don't think it does anything, but I figure'd I'd ask. Thanks!





(ps - anyone in the Orlando area good at welding? I have beer...)

By crossmember are you referring to that piece of 1" square tubing? Lose it. What's it doing there anyway? It's not adding any significant strength, I'd ditch it personally.

 

Thanks. I'm going to lose both of those things I think. My exhaust didn't use that bracket anyway. I don't know what that tubing is, but I'm gonna lose that too. The PO must have put it in there for something.
