Both of the CJ5 frames that I have are broken thru the left frame rail just ahead of the rear spring front hanger. In fact the hangers are nearly broken loose from the frame in both cases. The '56 must have been that way for a while because the body is also broken, thru the panel below the left door opening. This one also shows beginning cracking in the same location on the right side frame rail. I noticed that there is no boxing of the frame in these areas. CJ2A frames are boxed there. A '53 M38A1 frame I have is also un-boxed there, but not broken, even tho I know it led a rough life. Is this a common problem? Seems to me like it is, as every CJ5 frame I've ever owned was broken (two so far, including these) ;)
I plan to use the '59 frame, I've already straightened & welded the rail, and will box a short section of it. Has anyone seen this before? BW

Frame cracks at the spring hangers are very common. Usually repairable. Do a search.
