any tricks I should know? I'm going to be stickn' my bearing adapter retainer holder thing to the front of of my T90. I've cleaned all the old RTV goo off of everything and cleaned the faces that will be stuck together. How big should the bead of goo be?...lol....goo be...:) I don't suppose you really can have too much. It should squish out if you have too much, correct?

Just looking for some pointers. I don't want to get this thing all buttoned up to find out that it leaks like a sieve...

Yeah, if you put it on before it dries excess will squeeze out. Just be careful around the oil return hole, don't let it get plugged. Also the bolts have a little o-ring to seal them, but I also put something like non hardening permatex on the threads.

Do you have a gasket? Either way, it doesn't take much....

I do have a gasket, but I'm not sure how well it will work with the T90 to Buick adapter. I have a gasket that is just for the T90 to the stock motor. I guess the bearing retainer size is the same though. I dunno.

If your just sealing the bearing retainer, the adapter shouldn't matter....

Good question, and brings up a question I have. I read some place that you kinda need to use RTV between the tranny and xfer case because the use of a gasket alone over time will wear away. True or not. Who ever worked on my tranny/xfer case only used RTV on everything, and it seem to leak pretty bad.

RTV should work fine if appiled with reason.
The mating surfaces must be reasonably flat to work.
PO job with tons of rtv everywhere would imply a bigger problem like it wouldnt stop leaking and he just gobbed it on there.

I realy like a product called the right stuff rtv.
It comes in a pressurized can easy to use and goes a long way's.

The bearing retainer is built into the adapter. The original retainer is fixed to the front of the adapter for the throwout bearing to ride on. Do I have the part names correct? This raises another question, the original threaded holes in the front of the T90, now that I have an adapter, do I have to fill those holes with RTV, a bolt or just assume the gasket will keep oil from coming though?

I don't know what brand adapter you have.
The Offenhasuer adapter used a special gasket between the trans and the adapter to seal that area; they also used a T14 or Ford input shaft seal (can't remember which) that pressed into the adapter from the trans side to seal the input shaft; the GM 4 bolt bearing retainer bolted to the adapter and no gasket was used.
I think you need something in between the adapter and the trans.

Special gasket? My adapter has "off" cast into the side. I'm guessing that is Offenhasuer? I didn't use a special gasket, just the gasket provided by Herm for the rebuild. When I took the adapter off, the PO just used the blue RTV to seal everything. There was/is an oil seal in the adapter. I got a new one and pressed it in. All I did was stick the gasket on the adapter using just a little bit of vasoline, RTVed around the outer edge of the adapter and stuck the it all together. The gasket was as lined up as I could make it. The RTV looked okay too.

    Think it will leak?
