What to use to clean alternator

    I got an alternator that has all kinds of oily dirt caked on it. I am wodnering what to use to clean it up

    Well, I did that to the one going on wimpy:twisted:
    I went thru and took it all apart and bench tested it. Didn't have oil on it, but I would imagine any motor cleaner like gunk or whatever is handy would work.

    if its caked real bad,its more than likely got some on the inside. i would take it completly apart and soak the outside in some solvent then clean.the inside parts. i would use some electronic cleaner especially on the stator and rotor put new bearings and brushes and put back together.

    CRC makes an electric parts cleaner that leaves no residue and cuts right through grease and oil residue. Used on the generator on my F4. Just keep off plastics. THought it was great.
