My stock temp gauge is not working. I think I would prefer one with actual temp instead of stock c/h. From what I understand, I cant use the factory sending unit that is in the front of the head with an aftermarket gauge.

If so, where will I put the aftermarket sending unit. I hear it goes in a plug on the drivers side of the engine block.. I guess I am a little clueless cause I dont see anyplace!!

    Thanks!

You can't reuse the OE sender with the aftermarket gauge, but you can re-use the hole.

I bought an electric temp gauge with a replacement probe that fits the hole on the AMC 6's don't remember who made it. Picked it up at FLAPS

I run 2 temp sensors. One is installed in a 4.0L T-stat housing on my 258 for my Fuel Injection system. The other is mounted on the drives side of the block and runs the aftermarket temp guage on the dash.

The only opening on the side of my block is the block drain, probably would not give an accurate temp reading IMO. Later engines with aluminum intakes w/coolant passage had temp senders in intake just not a lot of places to get a good temp reading on the 258.
