I've read a lot of the threads on rust treatment and have pretty much decided to use the POR-15. One question that I haven't seen addressed is if people have applied it inside the places in the frame which aren't esily accessible. Like the front cross over tube on the CJ-3A frame or the parts were the frame is boxed. The 3A frame that I have has about two feet on both sides near the front where it is boxed in and I can't imagine how to get a good coverage coat of rust treatment in there. Any ideas or descriptions of what others have done would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm getting ready to treat an 8 frame. They are boxed all the way. What some people do is to use clear plastic and duct tape to cover all the openings as best they can and pour the stuff in the frame. Make sure the frame is over grass. Close up the end you just poured the stuff into with duct tape. Now roll the frame around, tilt it up and down. Roll it over and over. Try to get the stuff to coat the whole inside of the frame.

Now what I'm going to do is to get a section of PVC and get one of those spongie things my wife uses to wash the inside of coffee cups when I leave them in the shop and stuff starts to grow in the cup. I think they are green and they have a white plastic handle. They are about 4 inches across. I'm going to get 3-4 of them and zip tie them toghether and then attach it to the PVC pipe. Now I've got a long skinny paint brush. just start at one end of the frame and start shoving the brush down.

I've also tried to figure out how to take the PVC and put a cap on it, drill a few holes in the pipe just below the cap to make a sprayer like thing. Then i need someway to use an air fitting so it actually sprayes the stuff out under pressure. Just haven't figured out the details yet.

I bought a cheap pump up type gallon sprayer just for that purpose. You can reach pretty good with the nozzle/stem that they have.

Alot of people skip painting the inside of the frame and just pump in used motor oil from time to time. It'll never rust. It will probably last alot longer then paint if you keep up with it. I hear thats what the government (military and postal services) did. Other then that, theres this stuff called Ospho. Its a metal treatment that turns rust into black tary like substance. Its got the consistency of water, so it covers alot. Pump an excessive amount of that stuff in your frame and let it dry for a week. Its 40 bucks a gallon at a GOOD sherwin williams.
