(1957 CJ5) O.k. so I'm new at this. Now I get it...I think. The hole at the top left (driver's side) of the bell housing is where the cable goes for the clutch release. The "ball" end of this slips through the clutch lever inside the bell housing. What I seem to be missing is a spring and the ball that the lever pivots on. Right?!

The engine "stay cable" (I hate this thing) screws into the lower left side of the transmission to the bell housing. A couple of you spoke of a metal tab bolted on top of the tranny mounting hole. I would like to see a picture of this if possible. I don't have a tab. I want a tab. I also would like to know; is there a particular bracket for the opposite end of this cable where the ball end is? A picture is worth a thousand words...know what I mean?

What's the best way to download a large file of pictures?

    Thanks in advance. -G

Yes you're correct about the clutch cable. I don't know why you can't open the thumbnails, but if you'll give me your e-mail address I'll send them to you.

my tab looks to be home made by a prior owner out of a piece of 1/4" plate.

rough measurements are 2"x3". with holes on the long ends.

can take pics later if needed.

I got the pictures, thanks. This computer set up doesn't allow me to do very much, safe guards, fire walls, "you don't have permission to do this that and everything else" type stuff. I appreciate the help. I still have some work to do. Thanks. -G
