I have a "57 CJ5; Dana 18 t.c. Warner T90 tranny and bell housing. I have them out, rebuilt, cleaned and all pretty looking. Repainted grey; easy to spot leaks. There shouldn't be any, I hope. Putting the whole thing back in, is it easier to assemble everything outside and roll it under the jeep and jack it into place? Or should I put it together one part at a time? Also, The shifters; should I have them already attached and raise the whole thing at once or instal after. ALL comments welcome.
Again thanks, and again Happy Birthday to all of us; active, retired and former Marines forever.:flag:

I prefer everything but the shifters together. Put them on last. :)

I just did the same thing to a t14 and the d18. I lifted them in place one at a time think it would be easier. If I had it to do over (which I may) I would have assembled them at installed it as one unit. My concern is the gasket/sealent between the transmission and transfer case may have move out of alignment when I was attaching the transfer case. I had lots and lots of black rtv on it so I'm just hoping it doesnt leak. If so it'll come down again.

All one unit, it would be difficult if not impossible to get the TC shifters up through the floor with them installed first.

Oh, and if you can, rent a tranny jack for a few hours. Worth it's weight in GOLD! ;)

I installed the trans/transfer as a unit. even had the crossmember bolted on as well. make a cardboard cover for the transmission to keep any dirt/rust/bolts out of it.
