I have a 71 CJ5 that has had power steering added. I don't know what year or model the power steering is. The steeing wheel and inner shaft pull out of the housing about 8 inches and thean stops. Is there a pin or retaining ring that is supposed to hold it in place? Just worried that I may loose my steering. Any suggestions? Thanks Lee

pictures of your column would help,
or under the hood where the shafts meet, column to intermediate shaft.

sounds like the column has been butchered, had the same problem on my cj5.
if you pull the column and can't fix it check out flaming river's steering products, costs money but cheaper than fabrication. that's what i did.
    beats combing the junkyards.
    good luck.
