I have a 66 CJ-5 stock. My tailights are not the best. There seems to be a lot of different prices out there. Anyone got a suggestion on a supplier with a good OEM looking reasonable tailight? Thanks 66-Dave

FYI - many of the Jeep vendors sell a "replacement" light that is really nothing more than a universal Grote tailight like this.

I bought a pair of "replacement tailights" from Walcks, and I when I did the Bantam I bought a "boat trailer light kit" from Northern Tool. The two sets of lights were virtually identical. I've also seen Krage selling the identical light on eBay, positioned as an item to use with a restoration, but carefully worded so as to not say "identical to original". They got over $40 for a set by using this approach.

I think they look fine - close enough for me, but would rather pay $5.99/ea locally for a "universal tailight" than $12.99 from a Jeep supplier for a "Jeep replacement tailight".

Try your local Napa, or I've even seen them at Wal-Mart.

See http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Dating/Taillights.html for a good page on E-CJ tailights.

If originality is not an issue, I'd recommend military lights. That's what I used and I love them. Available on ebay and online surplus places. Prices vary widely.

Yea, I've seen them at both places here. I've also seen them in much better quality at boat yards. Made specifically for "imersion". But for 6 to 10 bucks at Napa or Wallmart, their hard to beat.

In fact, when I first bought mine, that's what I thought I had on there. Had no idea they were the orig. HALL tail lights.

Thanks for the info. I have a stock 66 CJ5 I bought it in Feb. of 1971 it had 12000 mi. on it. Still have bill of sale for $2300.00. It was my main vehicle for about 12 years than the kids beat it around the farm till now. Kids are grow up and now I want to start restoring it. V-6 still runs like a top came with a Ramsey winch in which the gears are shot.Having Fun SW Wi. 66-Dave
