I have a 1964 CJ5 (built in Oct 63) with an F4 engine. The engine serial number by the water pump (s/n 361XXX) does not match the serial number on the firewall (s/n 162XXX). Should it? I read the Vehicle Identification paper on this site and couldn't figure out whether they should match. Thanks in advance.

I was hoping they shouldn't....Is there anyway to tell if this is the engine originally sold with the Jeep?

Acording to the s/n database on the CJ3B page some engine serial numbers in '64 were in the 361 range, so if your's isn't original it's probably close to original. Other than that there really is no way of knowing for sure.
