Yes. My lights are double filament bulbs with two wires coming out of the back of the tail light. One wire is the turn signal (brighter filament). The second wire is the driving light (comes on when the headlights are turned on), which is the dimmer filament. The light housing is grounded via the bolts that hold it to the Jeep. I had originally thought I could wire the break light to the same wire the turn signal is wired to, but I've come to realize that, as you said, this would only work when the turn signal is on and I'm not pushing the break pedal. So...What if I installed a small marker light above my two tail lights. The small marker light would act as my stop lights only. The tail lights would act as my turn signal and driving lights. Would this pass most DOT safety inspections?

FWIW check into it, your flatty should be exempt from any laws with turn signals. One brake/tail lamp was factory equipment.

But to answer your question yes that should satisfy any safety requirements because it is more then the vehicle came with anyway.

I have laminated all the laws showing my vehicle is exempt and will be putting it in a ammo box in the tool box.
