hello guys and gals I have a Carter YF on my f-134 53 Willys M38A1 just rebuilt and it still wants to bogg down in 2nd and 3rd gear high rpm ( end of shift range ) Ive been told it maybe running to lean but the only adjustment I can find is the idle adjustment. With that said should I adjust the idle adjustment at a higher rpm ? . The Willys starts fine idles great just doesnt want to run smooth at high speed you know 38 mph. I have also been told its time to trash the Carter and go with a Solex any suggestions? I just want it to run good incase I have to outrun the fires we have here in CA:flag:

    Have you checked timing?

Agree w/ the concept of timing ... though might be a frozen/sticky mech advance weight.
As far as the carb: I had kinda the same prob, but just a gigantic "miss" at spped, plus flooding crawling out of my creek. I ran 1 (pt) bottle of Techron carb cleaner per 5 gal of gas for ~3 fills ... all carb probs have disappeared. When my friend gets an old machine w/ possible gummed carb, he runs a jumper hose direct into a quart of B12 and speeds up the process :)
