I'm needing some advice on re-installing the axles I removed for bearings etc. I read in the manual about "end Play", I understand the idea, but am not sure how to go about it.
When I put my axles back in, it had the shims only on the passengers side.
Any advice and or pictures of how to set it up will help.
    thanks
    John

Basically, you start with a bunch of shims, maybe 0.060" worth (you may need to buy more), then put enough back together to bolt the bearing retainer on. Do this slowly/carefully incase you don't have enough shims (someone did this to mine and, I believe, broke the pinion thrust block). Get a dial indicator and measure endplay after bolted up tightly. Then take it apart and remove the right number and thickness shims to take out the amount of space to get to the correct endplay amount. Calipers or a mic are needed to know how thick the various shims are. Then put it back together and check the endplay again.
"Some people" say if you can "feel" just a "bit" of endplay, that's close enough and don't need a dial indicator.

Thanks for the suggestion. The block in mine moves back and forth, depending on which axle I push in. I can seat one axle, but Glenn told me I am not supposed to expect to seat the bearings in the shaft, just close, then use the shims. I did order two packs of shims from Krage just in case. They are great to do business with.
    Thanks

    Sounds like you've got it.
Interesting about your thrust block. They must have made a revision ... probably from people breaking them. Mine has a circular hole, not a slot. When/if I replace mine, I'll see if I can get a slotted one. Thanks for the info.
