I have a '75 CJ6 that I am swapping from manual steering to power steering. I have a CJ power steering gear that I was going to use and just now ended up with a power steering gear from a '79 J10. Is there any difference in these boxes? Should I use one over the other? I know the pitman arms are different, but can't see any difference other than that. Thanks for any insight, Chris.

Check rotation on input shaft. Go click to click. You want 4 to 4.25 rev.

I understand. I was just wondering if one had larger components inside or was stronger for some reason. I would think the J10 gear would have a slower turning time lock to lock, since it came from a larger vehicle. Just making sure I wasn't missing anything. Thanks, Chris.

Not sure - someone here should be able to answer. If it has a larger output shaft then the cj power steering I would think so.

I used a 83 CJ gear and its quick. Took some time to get use to. I have heard chevy had a good variable ratio saginaw on the 90's blazer 4x4 that works good.

AFAIK all the Jeeps except the J20 used the same size PS box.

Thanks for the response Tim. I am curious, what about the J20 gear is bigger/better? I have a J20 power steering gear set aside for my '67 M715 project and didn't realize that they were bigger?. I haven't looked at it in a while, just pulled it and put it in the bed of the truck, and just about forgot about it until you mentioned it. Thanks guys, Chris.
