    I have the info off of the plaque on the firewall but all I can find is what the VIN stands for. To answer my earlier question (different thread). My tub is a '74. but the rest of the story I am curious about.

    G500139 C4000
    VDO 999 498
    J4F83FTE27983 8300

    That is how exactly the plaque looks. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

    This is just for my curiousity.

    Thanks in advance.

    Figured it out. At least I think I did. The code 999 stands for a special order paint. You have to have the VIN in order to find out the color from the Stealership. Trim code is for the color of the seats. Mine are supposed to be buff. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

    The VIN, vehicle identification number, is J4F83FTE27983.
    J=Jeep, 4=1974, F=3-speed, 83=CJ-5, F=full cab,metal, T=StdGVWR,3750, E=232inline6,reg.compression, 27983=serialnumber.

    Other than the paint and trim code, the rest of the numbers aren't going to tell you anything without the invoice or build records.

    I actually think this was a Govt vehicle. I have the brass plaque that gives all kinds of specs and says US Property on it.

    I've got the brass plaque on my '67 dash. My Jeep was originally Forest Service. I could be wrong, but if yours was Gov. military, it would be an M38A1 not a CJ5

    I would agree. All I know is that it says US Property on the brass plaque.
