I am trying to find out how involved and what to look out for when i take the transfer case off of the transmision, i have the sm420 tranny but am not sure how to do this, I just purchased this jeep today and the current transfer case has a crack in it, i have another one but i need to put gaskets in it. I am sure you guys have talked about this before so if you could just send me a link to the thread. thanks for the help:?

Take the inspection cover off the back (if you don't have an OD). That will allow you to count splines and teeth. The problem is you can get adaptors to fit any of the combos so you have to check visually.
