Flatty Fuel Sending unit and 12V

    Flatty Fuel Sending unit and 12V... how do you make it work. I *think* The fuel gauge I have is 6V how do I tell/make it work if it is. The gauge is not original so I am not sure.

    That won't mess with the Ohms that the sending unit works off from?

    this would work if you have 12V elec system and using 6v original gauges, dash and sender.
    Maybe I misunderstood...you have 12V elec system, with 12v dash unit, and 6v sender?

    I have an original 462A sender
    I have an 12V electrical system
    I have an unknown gauge from a early Jeep.

    This is the fuel gauge, I don't know how to tell, it was tossed in for $5 with the other gauges I bought at the Willys reunion.

    if you had 6v units, the volt-a-drop would go inline on the power side of the gauge, to reduce the 12v voltage coming into the gauge to 6v, not the sender side of the gauge.
    only way to tell on the gauge in the photo would be to power up I suppose

    edit: you could take a battery charger, select 6v (if so equipped) and power up the gauge and sender; ground the units as well, and move the sender arm and see what happens.

    I was worried about frying the gauge if it is 6V....

    or just err on the side of caution and throw in the resistor to start I guess...
