The piece on the left fell out with the cap. Its a piece of rusty sheet metal. What is it and where does it go? Does everybodies old L heads look this clean under neath?

Might be part of the seal?? And wow, that thing is CLEAN! Had a rebuild recently? Most every old one I've had apart was as black as the bottom of a well. Looks like it needs bearings or is it the lighting in the pic?

    Bearing perhaps?
Mine was close to that clean, click on the link in my sig, it was just a darker shade of black. That and when I got it I drained the oil and let it sit for 2 months until saturday when I had pulled the pan then.

Looks a little narrow for the edge of a thrust bearing ... where is it located on a F134? More likely part of the seal.

The piece of rusty metal was part of the old seal. Now which direction does this piece go? Toward the bellhousing or the front of the motor? Looks like it could go either way.
