A few months back I wrote I was having trouble shifting my transmission and finally something froze and I ended up stretching my clutch cable. I took everything apart and found out the t.o. bearing would bind up on the tranny input shaft.

After sitting in my garage for almost two months, I finally replaced it. The results are amazing. The clutch and pressure plate were fine so I just reused them. I only replaced the clutch cable, throw-out bearing, and clutch fork. Shifting is soooo smooth I can't believe it. I first thought something was wrong since there was very little (compared to before things went south) resistance. I did place a very light coating of grease on the input shaft.

My thoughts are when the last time or last few times the clutch was replaced, the throw-out bearing was left. It wasn't making noise but it was the culprit. In any event, it is good to be driving my Jeep again even though the morning temps are in the high 30's and my top is off. :)

I'm glad to hear that. I'm replacing mine soon and I have never done one before. Hopefully it won't be that hard and I'll get similar results.

My friends CJ7 stopped moving after some latenight mudding. He left it in the CVS parking lot thinking it was a throwout bearing. Next day he had to be at his gramps birthday party at 1pm. Got to CVS at noon. Dropped his tranny, changed the throwout bearing and put his tranny back in. It took us less then an hour in the CVS parking lot with minimal tools. It did help dropping and installing his tranny probably 3 times in the few days before this incident so our skills were very refined.

We were so proud of ourselves walking around with our chins up like we worked for nascar or something. Then we found out it was a blown motor, and needless to say, he missed the birthday party.
