I don't know why you'd need one? But on Xtreme4x4 a few weeks back Ian built Hybred axle's. The basic same as a D60 knuckles with Ford 9" pumpkins. If you have iTunes, that's where to find the episode, it's 2 bucks, but worth it. I have it on my iPod and watch it picking up tricks if I ever need them.

Gotta agree with the "why would you need it" But if your looking for D60 info there are a couple other forums that will have information overload on them. http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/PR-BV60/index.html is a good start....

That axle will weigh about the same as the rest of your jeep..... and without 37" or bigger tires will act as a plow where it drags the pumpkin.....

But it will be about as indistructable as they come.

As I recall the kingpin axles are the best choice for strength. A lot of the guys that I wheel with run them. Typically the more desirable ones seem to go for the $1000 range or so around here.

What kind of use are you going to put this Jeep to?

Pardon me, but I think you are either inexperienced or uninformed or both. Like JeepTherapy mentioned, a Dana 60 (that's the brand - made by Dana-Spicer corp) has a big, big pumpkin that just doesn't make sense with sane tire sizes typically used on a factory wheelbase flatty.

    Front or rear axle?

I would also have to ask 'why D60's'. I just helped a buddy (Loren) put them in his rig (Dana Track shaved pumkin jobs for $12K), but it's a Scrambler with 39" tires, FI 350, 4.1 D300, Turbo 400, Hydro Steer... Full on rock crawler. As to a Flattie with them, unless your making a 'buggy' out of it your going to be hard pressed to be able to 'use' the D60's for what they need to be used for.

If your going for crawling, then your going to have to gear down 'significantly' to be able to turn those D60's with large enough tires to justify the weight (the 2 shaved axles were 950#), size, and expence with a V6 - thus making it nonfunctional for the road - or swap the whole drive train out.

I have what my 35+ years wheeling in CO would lead me to belive is a pretty bullit proof setup and I have the D30 Front and D44 rear (check the profile). I call it bullet proof because I am only going to run 33" tires. Could I go bigger - yes, at what I would deem to be a risk due to the D30 - that is based on the trails I do (I can and have done almost all the runs in CO EXCEPT 'buggy only type') and how I drive. I can also drive my jeep to work if I choose - It's tough for Loren to do that with the scrambler. The two of us can do most of the same trails, I have it easier in some places - he has it easier in others.

In summary - I guess I would say unless your going over 36" tires for a reason - Take a serious look at D44s. They are smaller, sometimes cheaper ('cause guys think they need D60s ;) ), weigh ALOT less and will be bullet proof if you want to go over 33" tires.

    Just food for thought.

Overkill, naturally. If you're keeping the L head or even a Dauntless you'll be underpowered for them as said, and yes, you don't need them, the Lhead couldn't break a 44... But we need info about your use since we're shooting in the dark...
