Pulled the cover off the rear and nothing but water came out. Seeing as the Jeep hasnt seen water in at least 6 years this was looking bad. I sprayed the heck out of the inside with wd40 and then a whole can of brake cleaner. The gears were still pretty decent. No pits. I started scraping the brick like substance off the cover and I found a pencil sized hole in the cover. I welded it up and and put everything back together. I filled it with autotranny fluid and I'm going to drive a around the block a little bit to flush out the rest of the inside.

Well I have another leak. THe front of the pinionstarted dripping almost as soon as it was full. What does it take to fix a leak like this? Pull the driveshaft or do I have to pull the guts out of the rearend?

First thing that popped into my mind for fixing a leaking rear end:

When you cleaned it all out you probably cleaned out whatever was blocking where it is leaking from now.

...not bad usually have to do on everyone I get. You moght try putting 90 wt back in it and see if it leaks atf is almost a guantee when it supposed to have heavier. Just be prepared to pull driveshaft yoke and put new seal in.....

And justa note, when the drive yoke is pulled off, if the diff is pointed down, large amounts of fluid will leak mighty fast, if there is a gap. Just don't be under it when you pull it or you'll be wearing your oil
