I just purchased a CJ6 tub but the guy did not know what year it was. I was wondering if I could get help determining at least an approx. year.

The tub has the word JEEP on it just in front of the door openings on both sides. Also the gas tank opening is located in the rear and not under the driver's side seat. When did Jeep change to this location?

Also I'm putting this tub on a 1957 CJ6 which has a rotten tub. I have searched the 57 Jeep and can not find the VIN plate, I thought it was on the fire wall in the engine bay. If I'm right most likely a person before I got the Jeep removed it. If this is the case is there anywhere I can buy a replacement VIN plate?

    Thanks for all the help.:)

If it says "JEEP" and not "Jeep" than it's likely a 70-71.

Check the laws in your state. You should be able to use the SN stamped into the frame for ID. If your title matches the frame, then it shouldn't be a problem. If it were mine, I'd get some number stamps, stamp the VIN into a piece of aluminum, and pop rivet it to the body.
