I am planning ahead on my frame swap. I was going to box in the frame and i was thinking bout my transmission crossmember. Currently I am using my stock crossmember, when i box in the frame i will either have to sleeve the frame rail top to bottom so i can put long bolts into to use the stok crossmember. But i am thinknig bout making a new crossmember and weld tabs on the inside of the frame to bolt it in.

My question is to those who have made a new crossmember and have used tabs to bolt the crossmember in. Is it any more difficult to drop and isntall the tranny/Tcase when you use this setup? To me it seems you will ahve to have it exactly right to get the tranny crossmember to go up between the tabs. Is it any harder this way or am i just thinking wrong about it?

Look at the one I built for the SM465 in the pics on my project page. The way I did it, it allows me to position everything and then swing the crossmember up like a hing. I used MORE mount systems on the 1" square stock.

Yup that is what i am thinknig. I was going to use a single mount on each side with a round tube using leaf spring bushings. Just seems for some reason it may be a pain to drop and install the tranny. maybe it is my current setup, the crossmember always seems to fight me to get into place and i am just bolting it down to the bottom of the frame rail :(

Chuck, do you still use a transmission mount? It looks like the round bushings on the frame would be enough.

Yes - I used both. You might be able to get away with just the ones in the bushings, but I really liked the way mine came out. The tourque roll I was getting was significant, and I think the combo will help with stress over the long run.
