[IMG][IMG]Hey everybody. I started tearing into my 225 today and 2 bad pistons:[IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG]
If I replace the pistons, I have to get it bored, right? Originally I planned on replacing rod bearings, rings, push rods, lifters, timing set and have the heads redone. Now I'm looking at a full rebuild. I guess my other option would be to find a running 231 and drop that in. But you never really know what you're getting. My father-in-law has a really good friend that would rebuild the 225 for me. But on the other hand, a 231 would be cheaper, and I need the exhaust manifold and power steering brackets as well. What are your thoughts: rebuild or 231? Thanks

What will the rebuild cost you?

Would the friend by chance have another V6 that you might be able to trade for?

Would getting another engine and then buy all the accessories to go with it off set the cost of a fresh rebuilt engine?:?

You would know you have a good engine after the rebuild, and you might have to have the used replacement engine rebuilt if you go that route.

Go for the full rebuild. Considering all the other stuff you were going to do, boring the block and buying new pistons won't cost you all that much more.

    Good luck with it.

you dont have to bore the block unless it needs it. you could just hone it out to get the glaze off the cylinder walls

I would also go with the rebuild, at least you know your getting a new engine vs a running engine with who knows what problems.

Speaking from experience... Tear your engine apart and inspect all of the cruical parts for cracks or flaws. If the block is crack free and all of your other parts are in decent shape then I would go ahead and rebuild the engine. FYI If i remember correctly the cost was only several hundred less to rebuild a 231 as opposed to buying a new 225 from texas four months ago.

Just curious, How much is it to have someone rebuild a 225? I think mine is a good runner but just for reference. I know you can get a long block from a remanu. for 1300+400core+200shipping=2k+or-
