Looking for ideas in strong, but simple family bars for the rear. Adding front hoop and spreaders this weekend and want a safe setup for the rear seat passengers.

#1 -rear hoop and spreaders back to main.
#2 -side hoops and spreader across
    #3 -something else

I've seen either 1 or 2 done well. What kind of bending capability do you have?

I'll have to shop it out. My shop can do up to 1" for steel hydraulic line, thats it. I want 1.75" DOM. We have a couple of race shops in town that make cages so with myself supplying the tube it should be cheap. I'll weld it in at my shop.

I want the safest design since the boys could be in the back.

Mine's less of a family bar as the cage was just designed to go back that far, but I liked the way they were able to put small bends in the upper rear cross bar to get more clearance under it.

Looking at Dan's though it looks like he has about the maximum amount with the other approach.

The limitation is really going to be the softop -- I remember being frustrated with the slope of the rear of the CJ5 softop, and how it forced the rear bar to be closer in towards the middle of the Jeep.

The dunes here in MI require that the rollcage be "above and behind" the passengers heads, and it was just about impossible to do that and fit in the softtop.

    So I bought a CJ6...R)

My cage is made to fit under the soft top as well... Seemed to work for the kids this summer as the seat sits a little forward of the back as well.

So, why not have a custom top made?
That way you could build the cage the way you want, and have the top fit to the cage. Would be a two person install, probably. but, then I don't run a top, just the bikini thing. Weather here is good for riding the Vstar year round, so I run the JEEP the same way. Doesn't have a heater, never did.:coffee::hurrican::flag:

QUOTE=Dummy;532308]Here's what I did on Hatari.

Couple more pics of it are in this thread: http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34328&page=3[/quote]

I like that but I'd have to change quite a bit to mimic the design....think I'll just bend a bar higher than the one in the pic (headbanger)
