I have a 1953 m38a1 and in looking for parts, I see alot of 1955-76 cj5, m38a1 etc..What I'm wondering is, will 55 cj5 parts fit my 53 m38a1? I'm not concerned with motor/tranny as they are not stock. Thanks in advance.

Most of the parts should swap over. They are essentially the same save for a few oddities. Most of the accessories ie tops, seats and the like should work as good as they would in the 5.

From my short experience so far, yes. However when I was looking for a spring replacement (Rancho 1" lift) I was "told" by suppliers that the u-bolt kit for such CJ's may not fit the pass. side of the 'A1 due to the inner u-bolt having to go around the pumkin housing (bigger than the axle tube) ... I do not know if that is true. Other than that, so far, so good.
    Cheers!

Much is the same or similar.

Some parts are functionally the same but made to different specs. Some items are radically different. Some can be swapped, even if different.

    Depends on the particular part.
