I'm converting my m38a1 to 12 volt from 24. Got all the electrical system from a 57 cj5 and have installed it. Now I'm just tyring to do all the wiring with my ez wiring harness. Its a mess! I dont even know where to start. I've found a couple of f-134 early cj5 diagrams but it isn't compatible with my ez harness. Isn't there some diagram out there that is color cordinated with the ez wiring harnesses? Thanks a lot for your help! Jacob

The EZ-Wire harness should come labeled on the harness itself.

I don't know of a color diagram that matches it. Even the directions are in black and white with the color labeled.

I hate to say it, but you're on your own trying to match the M-38 to the ez-wire harness, since all of the gauges and such are electrical on the M-38. You're going to need to change out all the gauges and the distriburor too, since it has the coil inside and I'm not aware of a 12v coil to fit the military system.

Sorry, but this is a fairly complex project, doing a re-wire and a 24-12v conversion at the same time.

What are you using for an alternator? :?

Well, its not exactly as bad as it sounds...I stole the altnerator, distributor, sylenoid, coil and starter from my 57 cj5 parts jeep and put it on to my 54 m38a1. So now I'm just trying to hook up the ezwiring kit. I found the diagram on this websight but the colors dont match the ez harness. I've never done this before so I might be blowing hot air but how can you know which wires go where without having a color coded diagram? or even a diagram with each wire individually identified? Follow Me?

I forgot... as far as the gauges go I'm stil looking for origonal looking 12v gauges. cant find them. Is there anyway I can reuse the 24 volt origonal ones with the 12 volt system?

Like I said, the wires themselves in the EZ-Wire kit are labeled, every few inches with exactly where they go. That and the instructions that come with the kit has a wiring diagram in it with the wires labeled as to where they go and colors.

The EZ wire is literally marked right on the wire, left front turn signal , right front turn signal, rear left turn signal and so on. It is marked fan, ignition, tach, horn and so forth. There is no color code to the original wiring to match up to. Simply hook your turn signal to the wire thats marked for it and so on.
