    Welcome from, well, KS!

Good sir, do you happen to live in/near the Lawrence area?

Some other fellows from the board have made a VIN list for the CJ5 models. I believe the frames may have been stamped in a simliar location on your CJ2a model. Check here for a diagram:

Welcome.. The only VIN's I know about are a tag on the right side firewall and one on the left frame horn just behind the front bumper mount. I don't think they stamped the frame like they did on later models.

The jeep belongs to another guy who inherited it from Mo. Need to find VIN to pass Ks. out of state inspection to tag it. Clint, I live by Clinton lake and work on the hill. My jeep is a 1972 cj5, original, now tagged antique. Runs good needs body help.

It's an old Jeep. Good grief.

    Good luck with it. :)

Kansas - on one that age 90% of the time the tag on the firewall is the only location for the VIN - does he have a title for the jeep?

Title won't help in this case if there's no VIN, I know.

Those are the only places for a serial number on a 2A I know of as well, Depending on year the frame tag could be on the inside OR outside, I have seen both.

However, the left upright support on the driver side front MAY have a ACM number stamped in it, this is NOT a serial/VIN though and really is not much help, other then identifying approximately when the tub was built. They also stopped doing the ACM number when Willy's started making the tubs in-house.

You can get reproduction data/serial tags if you have the title for it though, but they may question the shiny new tag if the rest of the jeep isn't restored yet.

if you have the title with the vin number on it just go to one of the parts dealers and have a new plate made and put it ont he firewall.

If all else fails, some unscrupulous types will buy a really unsaveable Jeep just for the tagsand then get it retitled in their name. Bonus if the tags come with a title, not that I would ever endorse doing such a thing..
