I am about to swap over another set of non welded axles with the same factory 5.38's. The PO had welded both front and rear axles into a sort of spool, so I want to swap in another set of 25/41 with open diffs since that is what I have ready to be installed.
The Jeep has 35" tires and I know that is a bit much for off road on these axles but what about just driving on the street? I don't really plan on wheeling this one but would like to keep it SOA with larger tires. It has the 225 V6 with the T90/D18 and a Husky overdrive for the drivetrain.
Do you alll think these will hold up to cruising around town and occasional two hour drives to the beach? I haven't had much experience with the Dana 41 but always hear they are weak. Seems they are comparible to a Dana 35 by the specs. thanks

i dont know much on how strong they are....i've only had mine a short while....

    but have you considered stopping?

big tires, small non-power brakes ....might not be fun!

    just food for thought :)

You can put the D44 side gears in the 41 and slide 19spline D44 shafts in. That will strengthen it up a some if your worried about it.

I run 35" BFG Mud terrains with stock 10 spline axles (25 front 44 rear). So far they have held up great (2 years now). Most of the wheeling in my area is Mud... not much rock crawling, so that makes a big difference. i wouldnt want to push them too hard in the rocks.

For street, they will be just fine... on the trails, just be careful and they will survive. I do however carry spare axle shafts (bought from members of this forum) just in case...

The existing axles have 11" drums which I will be swapping over to the new axles. I have replaced all the brake lines with new and have rebuild kits for the drums. Hopefully that will be sufficient but I will see. I may swap in a Dana 30 with discs if it ends up being an issue and upgrade the master cylinder. Swapping side gears and shafts sounds like a good idea as well.
My 69 had slightly smaller drums with 34" tires and that stopped fairly well, just had to give it a little more foot is all.

Should probably be fine. Just run it, and if one breaks ,repalce as necessary :)

Cool, thanks guys. I'm going to put them in and go from there. I do have some WT Dana 44's off of my old J10 but that is more work then I want right now, these others will go right in without and other modifications.
