I came across a flatfender that is in great condition. Ok...here is the deal... it is 2WD. The owner said it was on a Military base and it never had 4WD. How many did they make like that? Is this a common flatfender willys? I know the universal jeeps pretty well, but, lacking knowledge on the flatties. Can someone explain the 2wd and would it be easy to convert? Thanks so much for your time.

Its sounds like a dispatch jeep. Thye were not rare and were used by delivery companies and the postal service along with others for years. They were all 2wd. It can be converted to 4wd by just adding the transfercase and the front axle and equipment.

yup, its a DJ-3a. Easiest way to convert it would be to drop the whole body on an existing CJ-2a or CJ-3a Frame. This is exactly what mine is (DJ-3A body on a CJ-3a Frame). CJ-5 frame would work too but requires more fabrication. All depends on what you want to do...

take a look at the classifieds section and ebay for a rolling chassis... they come up for sale a lot more often than you might think.

That is what I thought....Dispatch. I think I will get it becuase it is so solid and orig. I have a 66 Cj5 chassis with 225, t90, and 18case that would make a sweet flattie project. I built my own chassis for the Tuxedo I am finishing. Thanks so much for the help.

Isn't candy stripe pink-and-white is it? One of those that were used in the Caribbean Islands after the war?
