I am finally in the process of getting my venting windshield back together. The glass that slides into the frame had a fiber like strip around it when I removed it. See pic below.

When I got my glass cut they gave me this rubber strip that wraps around the windshield edge and slides into the groove.

Question is has anyone used this type of strip before and does it just rest on the glass until it is in the frame and then I trim it or should I be using some sort of adhesive? Or is there something else I should be using?

Good question. I'd think it would be OK naked, since the frame will be squeezing it all together, it won't be going anywhere. Or, you could probably use something like that 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive. I'd be more concerned about bending that rubber strip around the curves without it wrinkling.

When you get it all done, you can come and do mine! :D

    OK

I am still up for suggestions. I played with it a bit more and found that the thinner piece of the flat seal works, but still has some play in the glass. The thicker one is just too thick.

The black seal (I guess it is called butyl tape?) will stay adhered if pressed on with manual force. The rounded corners can also be worked out so there are no bulges around the glass.

I am thinking I am going to try and find some glass sealant (caulk) to apply between the metal frame and the glass. Hopefully this would create a good seal between the frame and the glass. As of right now there is a little play in the glass with the smaller black seal tape.

    edit:

    Just found this:

Has anyone ever used FLOW-GRADE-BUTYL-WINDSHIELD-SEALANT? Looks like what I need.
