starting a teardown on a 3a. it's down to frame axles and springs.

suspension is heavily damaged and most should be replaced. i think the springs can be rehashed using another pair that came with it. need shackles, U bolts & springplates. snubbers. that's about it.

a bit of confusion when it comes to the shackles. some are reverse thread and are only on certian corners of the suspension. i'd like to find out exactly what i need or if it matters which thread they are. also if i can just use an aftermarket "H" shaped shackle.

i talked to a sales guy at jeep4x4center.com and he wasn't quite sure which i should be looking into. they are out of florida and seem like they have a decent selection and he said there's a more knowledgable guy there on thursdays named john.

thanks and let me know your take on this.

You can run the more modern shackles with no issue.

When I stripped my chassis down, I wish I would have known about these LH shackles!! I had a 2 foot breaker bar on it and kept turning the nut (counterclockwise)--the whole time I'm thinking, "why is this so tight? And why isn't it getting any looser? And where are all these metal filings on the floor coming from?" R)

I call my dad up (he's owned and overhauled a few flattys), he had no idea what the problem could be. A week later, having learned about the LH threads, I call him back. As soon as I mentioned it, he's like, "OH Yeah, that's right, there's two that ARE left hand threaded!" Thanks dad.
