I finally got a good start on my steps. I think they came out very good. I was in a hurry. Leaving for a 1000 mile journey with the jeep on thursday. I can barely get in and out of it without my trusty bucket. Don't want to look like a total putts when I pull into my home town in this cool jeep. :) My paint is very poor and will need to be done over when I have more time.

    Those are nice.

    What stock is that.
I was thinking of useing 2x4 square pipe for mine but not sure how to attach to bottom of tub.

Welding sheet to pipe seems like it might not work well for my skillset.

But yours looks like a better gauge.

    Hope I am making sence.

    looks good.
why did you put the expanded metal on the bottom of the tube?
and what is the cutout for in the front?

The cutout is for the fender molding on a intermedate which on a early wouldnt be nearly as long.

and the expanded metal is so my toes don't fall through on a slippery tube getting out of the jeep. Not sure if you can tell in the pics but it is attached to the top side of the tube and the bottom side of the sheet steel.

I used schedule 40 1 1/4 inch pipe and 1/8 inch sheet steel that I had bent at a local shop. I think I spent about $100 for enough material to build two sets. My next set will probably only go as far as the front of the tub.

I'm building mine right now, I think the 1/2 inch steel I used was probably overkill. Yours look good. The expanded metal was a good idea.

Looks good, makes me think more about making a set for mine. I just have drilling holes in the body! any way they look good.

I had a hard time drilling holes in the body also. I have a fiberglass body that is in about perfect condition. I found water trapped inside the walls of the body when I drilled so I guess it was a good thing.

I bolted one on yesterday. I set my holes up so in the future I could tie them into the cage from the side. I also have enough material to pick up 4 of the cage mount bolts on the bottom. I think 3/16" might have been a better choice. The 1/8" is plenty strong for the step but I am not so sure how it will hold up to bashing rocks. I don't expect I will be hitting them very often so they will probably be fine.

for light duty 1/8 inch should be fine. i made mine out of 1/4inch 5x5 angle with 1/4 inch wall 2x2 square tubing welded on the face. i plan on heavy duty use. mine are about 60 pounds each

OH My, 60 pounds is about 6 times as heavy as mine are. I am guessing mine are between 10 and 15 pounds. I could be way off, but they weigh less than my cat and he is about 20 pounds.
