Someone jump in if I am wrong but I think you can...

Open the hood.... There is a clutch adjustment nut to the left and below where the stearing column comes out of the firewall. it is a long nut on a long bolt, looks solid but its threaded, connected to the clutch linkage that come out of firewall. There should be a regular nut on the rear side of the slot that the threaded rod goes through. Loosen this nut, then adjust the long nut to desiered clutch length.... I am not sure if this will fix you issue but it does adjust the clutch....

I agree. I just played around with this adjuster last night. You probably want a little bit of freeplay before the clutch disengages so I would adjust the nut out as far as is goes while allowing about an inch or 2 of freeplay in the clutch pedal. The fastest and easiest way to adjust it is to pull the pin out of the lower part of the rod that goes through the firewall and connects the pedal with the linkage. This way, you can easily drop the adjuster arm out from the indent in the throwout plate and make your adjustments. At least, that's how it works on my 79 CJ-5.
