i think i found my starter problem

walked out to the parking lot after work. turned the key. engine coughed once and i thought i knocked every tooth of the fly wheel.

at least i was able to have a buick starter rebuilt from parts at the local auto electric shop for $45 w/ a new solenoid.
turns over fast, strong and so quiet i can barely hear it.

the jeep gods work in mysterious ways.

I've seen that when the starter bolts work their way loose
were the bolts tight ?
not that it matters....

 

yep. they were tight. i checked them when i got the jeep. when i looked at the crack i could see that dirt and grease had gotten into about half of the length of the break. so, i figure it had been cracked while the po had it as well. i just finished the job. on the bright side, if it's gonna happen, i'd rather have it happen in a parking lot in town than on the trail.

I had one the ears on the block of my small block chevy break off. I wish it was my starter instead.
