spedometer gear

    What drives the worm gear that goes on the rear output of a d18? I dont see any splines or keys or pins, does it just wedge between the yoke and the bearing? How come it isnt solidly attached to the shaft, or is it, am I missing something here? :?

    had one one my jeep truck that jammed up and speedo gave eratic readings.thought speedo was bad.removed the worm gear and took some scotch bright cleaned up the shaft slipped it back on.worked fine.think its like that to prevent the needle from jumping around.

    it's supposed to fit that way. i wondered about that too, when i replaced a missing speedo gear on my 69.
