Has anyone come up with a creative way to remove rust from the widshield channel where the top slides in? I have a 73 and I can't find a new one. I read several posts and it seems the only way to get a new windshield channel is to either buy a whole new windshield or splice together the ones made for the 76 and up. My top is having a hard time sliding through and I can only imagine it will get worse if I don't get the rust out. Thanks for any help.

My 75 had some surface rust in the channel. I wirebrushed it as best I could with a small (a little bigger than a toothbrush) brass brush. then I sprayed a product that converts the rust to black oxide (supposedly) and let it dry. Found the spray at the local True Value, there were a couple of different ones to choose from, don't remember the specific brand I chose, cause I don't put much faith in such things anyway. After the stuff dried, I took a sliver of a just about used up soap bar from the shower and worked it into the channel really well. The top slid in surprisingly well, with a little patience. A little pull, a little push, etc. Only had to use some tape wrapped pliers for the last 2" or so.
Suppose I'll save on washer fluid when it rains though.
