Did a bunch of re-wiring this last week. Ditched about 50' of wiring...front/rear trailor and 2 switches mounted the inner wheel well...a mess!!! I wired in a new signal switch, replaced connectors, added new loom , etc. Lights and signals all work properly, but...rear drivers side brake and signal are dim. I took the housing off, sanded in and out where bolts meet, even scraped paint off where housing meets tub...no change.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
PS...I've done a search but havn't found a solution...a differant way to ground?

Have you tried taking the bulb out and rotating it 180deg?

???? I don't think I can??? don't the offset knobs on the bulb disallow that?
I did rotate bulbs in the rear lights with the same results.

On mine you can. I think most 1194 bulbs will do that. Flip it one way and the tail lights are dim, brake/turn are bright; flip it the other way and you get the dim lights like what you have. YMMV, HTH.

check the ground from the motor to body.
I put an extra ground strap from battery to firewall and from motor to frame helped alot.

The bulb would only fit one way...my neighbor came over and said " its almost like the wires from the tail light are on backwards" DOH!!!
    Works like new now:)
    Thanks again, Jim S.

    R) I'll bet the really weird part was that at the same time the tail light was brighter than it should be. ;)

Now that you don't need it, buy yourself a decent test light. Alligator clamp for the ground and an ice pick for the hot lead. You can eliminate a lot of what you just did by ruling out a bunch of factors. Pretty handy little helper!

That's all I use, although in this case only the brightness of the bulb indicated correct or not correct. :)

    yepper, gonna pick one up.
Its funny I can wire a house no problem, but auto wiring always scared me. After going through the 6 with the simple diagram found here on this site I'm feeling my oats nowR) , been quite the learning process
