looks like the part of the front of the front bearing retainer is gone or the wrong bearing retainer is on the trans. the throw-out bearing is suppose to ride in the bearing retainer

i meant the throw out bearing should ride on the snout of the bearing retainer.looks like its been riding on the input shaft of the trans.

The bearing retainer is to big around for the bearing to have riden on and I would say is to short?

I guess it may not matter because its not going back in but sure seems wierd.

Has anybody seen this setup before?
I know that is a gm adaptor on the tranny, for the buick bellhousing.
So it would seem it has the wrong bearing retainer??

I had tried adjusting the linkage and thought the fork seemed to loose.

The good news is the flywheel was turned today and is in real good shape.:)

Well that's just so wrong, I can't believe someone would have put that back together like that. Wait a minute, come to think of it yes, yes I can believe it  . That bearing retainer should be about 4" or so so longer. Bet that made one heck of a noise

When you let out the clutch it felt and sounded like someone had a giant hammer, and was hitting the back of the frame as hard as they could:rofl:

Well I have been taking more of the mess apart.
It is the T98 trans but would seem to have a short t90 bearing support.
The t case is a 6 spline input gear which I didnt expect they are listed by Novak for Commandos as 10 spline so anyway after taking the thing apart it seems to be a early J 10 case which is fine because I am getting a Novak adaptor for a sm420 and would rather have the 6 spline stub shaft as it would be more common if I need another case down the road.

The bad news is the Tcase was full of shiny silver oil.
All the teeth look good so not sure why ,yet ,took the intermediate shft out to make sure on the part# and the shaft and rollers look new.

The T98 looks like a sewing machine next to the sm 420
And it fits right in the bellhousing so I will use gm clutch parts and am going Hydrolic too.
