timing

    hello im having a hard time geting my timeing back on line I know to put at top dead center at 0 degreas and the roter button between 1&6. I put it there it runs for a second or two then jumps 150 degreas am i doing something wrong please help by the way its a 225 1970 and on my point gap my book says 16 on this web site people have said 22 which is wright thanks

    Wow, 150*? To go that far something must be amiss. Distributor clamp in place when running (the gear will push it up and out), no teeth missing on dist gear or cam gear, timing set and chain in good shape? Perhaps others will have more ideas.:v6:

    I'd agree with the timing chain, make sure it's in good condition.

    Get a breaker bar and 13/16" socket (IIRC), take the cap off the distributor and turn the crankshaft watching to see if there's a delay in the distributor moving. If so the timing chain seems suspect.

    thanks for info what it was , when putting in distributor the oil pump shaft was set a little off and was moving my distributor slightly thanks for the help . :)
