This website has such a high volume that some times a post can end up in archives Practically overnight, whereas some posts can go on for days. about three weeks ago I posted a question about high backseats and where to get them. All of the online catalogs only have high back off road seats for the 1976 and later jeeps. I do not know what changed, but I am trying to find seats for my 1955 and 1963 Cj5s to fit on the three point frame. I would like to have a four point seatbelt, Even if I have to modify my rollbar to accept them. Does anybody know why nobody lists the off road seats for the older CJ5s. I am currently using a seat from a Ford Bronco, which only required the mounting holes to be relocated. it is a highback seat with armrests. But I am 6 feet tall and definitely not high enough should I'd be struck from behind.

I put some in mine, I had to remake the mounts so to speak.

I put some Bestop Aqua Sport seats in my 61. Had to build new seat mounts for them though. I like the comfort of the seat but... The aqua sport neoprene does not handle sun well at all. So if you go that route keep a top on your jeep. I modified my seat belts to three point, works well.

Since I live in the desert. Even the bikini top will not keep the sun off the seats. I have the ability to bend pipe and weld which would be necessary, should the seatbelts be part of the seat, because the three point frame would not withstand a head-on collision. Is there a website that sells seats that will fit the early cjs. the seats advertised for the 1976 and newer are 23 inches deep, where as the stock seats and the Broncos seats are Only 18 inches deep. Before I order from any catalog. I will need a little more information why are the newer seats 6 inches longer. Did they change the Jeep in 1976. To accommodate the deeper seats

I' m not really sure what more you're looking to find out than you've already found by searching and posting previously.

    - There are no bolt in replacements for ECJ's
    - There are plenty of seats that will fit with some custom mount work.
    - Yes, the seat mounts changed in 1976.

IMHO - No one lists off-road seats for ECJ's because no one makes them. No one makes them because the projected sales volume would be too low to be worthwhile - and because the ECJ crowd tends to be more DIY oriented than the later "gotta be bolt-in" Jeep owners.

But if you really want to know why places aren't listing ECJ seat options you'll need to call them and ask them specifically. As we have no current reps from the vendors coming here to the board, we can only guess.

Yep -- warehouse inventory = money and manufacturers are cutting part numbers instead of adding. Many don't make catalog space anymore but may still be on the shelf for those 1-2 calls per year.

For example, Lift kits/springs for flatties are cut way back from some manufacturers or discontinued all together. Focus is on late 90's Wranglers as a bazillion were produced and demand for mod parts is high and means $$$

Well okay, thanks for your replies, and they do make sense to me now. The last time I posted I got no replies at all. I guess it's time to simply start making phone calls, since there is no real ability to shop The Internet with pictures.

FWIW, there are no "archives" here.

Any thread that's still available to read is live so to speak. I'm not sure what you mean by "archives".

Adam, I used the word archives loosely. Once it is no longer under new post and again once it has gone beyond the first or second page of its well organized appropriate Forum it is not likely to be viewed again. This is when ( I ) consider things to be archived and not likely to be viewed again until a search is done. I didn't mean to send any junior members looking for the archives. Thanks for bringing this to our attention

Mike, I did a search and found my old post, and I believe adam misunderstood what I was looking for, and basically what leads I got took me to sites that only had 1976 and later, it wasn't until your post This time that I actually understood what was available and what I needed to do. So thanks for that, I don't think you replied last time. but I would have to go back and check again, but I felt like the previous post really didn't get the point across but you did this time in a blunt sort of way. I think I can handle it from here, thanks

Just one more thing. When I say, I did't get any replies at all what I meant was any replys that made me understand what the deal was in a manner that I could understand. Sometimes I have trouble with my memory. I suffered a severe head injury after being run over by a truck. they tell me that I'm lucky to be here at all. the level of morphine I take every day Certainly doesn't add to help me be the sharpness tack in the box. So I ask for your patience

To be clear. Some forum software packages do allow archiving which means when searching you search two sets of data. One current and can be posted to, the other is not and cannot be posted to.

This forum does not do that. If it's in the forum, it's postable (is that a word?) ;)

the bestop high backs on mine (76-95 CJ/YJ aqua's) ONLY required redrilling 2 holes in the driver's side frame, and making spacers with new holes for the passenger side. I ended up making a 'boyink' notch (about 2" deep) in the driver's side (am 6') the passenger side got a talk with the bfh to make it fit (about 1/2" needed)
