I'm gonna have to cut off the winch mount plate that's on the 6 now, then fab up a new mount to sink this one between the frame rails.........I'm stoked about this purchase

so I've gotten a little free time at work and decided to take advantage of it by using the shop there to start the winch upgrade. First thing was to cut off the old winch plate
    [IMG]
alot of work went into getting it set up right, but the torch and 7" grinder made quick work of removal
    [IMG]
I put the winch on a jack so I could get an idea of how I wanted to mount it

then decided to remove the bumper to ease the fabrication
    [IMG]
the plan is to add 4" to the bottom of the bumper (got the idea from "jpflat2a" Jim's post of his buddies work).......I shaved a 1/4" of width from the bumper and welded a solid plate/L angle on the back side....we'll fill in the front and sides effectivly boxing the whole bumper
    [IMG]
with my recovery points tied into the frame and grade 8 hardware holding the bumper to the frame I think I'll end up with a very stout mount

Why is the 8274 such a popular winch?

They seem like a really sought after item!

As always, the Jeep is looking great!

Looks great so far, Jim. Gonna be ready to run the Rubicon next Summer? It could be the 2nd Bi-annual ECJ5 Rubicon Run. Or simply Vintage Iron II.

been sick for the past week, but managed to get the winch mounted
first cleaned up the welds and applied some bondo....prep/primer
    [IMG]
then paint.....the bumper ended up looking like one piece
    [IMG]
got the winch mounted....I like that it's sunk further down and isn't blocking the radiator so much
    [IMG]
just need to figure out the wiring.....gonna replace the power cables.....then I'll unspool the wire rope and rewind it correctly
    Jim

ps.......the 6 did great up in the mountains a little over a week ago, almost got to 8000' with no motor issues (love the EFI)....clutch did great and the OD worked fine on the way there (65mph at about 2350rpm).......new truetrac seemed to work well too

got the winch dialed in...may swap to winch rope in the future.
Started on the rear rack. I purchased the rack at a swap meet....the idea is to set it up so I can hang 2 Con-Ferr style jeery can racks off of it for extra fuel on long trips. I got the rack welded to the tire carrier today
    [IMG]
problem I'm having is the rack is 3/4" narrower than the spare tire ......gonna have to modify the angled support and still come up with a flat surface for the Con-Ferr can rack, and all this without it looking Micky Mouse.
Got an appointment next week with my muffler guy, gonna run a 2 into 1 muffler (thanks Dummy/ Christian) inside the frame rails and out the back

so here was my solution for widening the rack.....welding tube is a pain :(
    [IMG]
I then was able to run a diagonal brace from the tire carrier...this allows for good mounting points for the Con-Ferr type gas tank holders
    [IMG]
just need to order the tank holders and mount them and I'll be done
    [IMG]
can't have to much storage area on a jeep, even a cj6

picked up some half doors on craigslist cheap so back to working on the 6. these are the doors
    [IMG]
they didn't come with hinges so I picked up some 3/8"dom and some 1/8" flatstock and welded up some that fit in the door jam
    [IMG]
I need to pick up some bolts that I can flush mount with the hinges, right now the bolt heads bind up on the inside of the doors. here they are mounted up
    [IMG]
I have some credit at a metal supply so I picked up some 1/8" thick polished aluminum sheets that I'll cut down to fit the doors....figure it'll go nicely with the slot mags :D
My wife will like having the doors on...she's always been a bit spooked with out them.......I'll post up some more pics when I get the covering on them

bought some 1/4"x20Tx1" bolts with a tapered head so I could flush mount them to the hinges. The metal in the door jambs is double thick so I decided to drill and tap them
    [IMG]
then I drilled out the hinges and used a !/2" drill bit to countersink the hinges
    [IMG]
got the doors mounted back up and no more binding, they work great :)
I marked out the aluminum sheets and will cut them out tomorrow with a jig saw, sure wouild be nice to have access to a nice metal shop...it'd sure make these projects easier
    [IMG]
I also picked up the stainless bolts to attach the skins with, can't wait to finish
